Scholarship

The Board of Directors of the Mad River Valley Health Center has awarded a $1000 scholarship for the year 2024 to Naomi Myers of Moretown. Naomi is studying dentistry.

This year’s scholarship was made possible, in part, by a generous donation from former Valley resident Bob Messner in memory of his wife, Louise, who was a dedicated Occupational Therapist. She practiced in a variety of settings from home health to the school system, from Boston to Texas and back, finally settling here in Vermont. She was a staunch advocate for all in need even after her retirement, creating a medical equipment loan program here in The Valley. She had an infectious spirit and never missed a moment to make you laugh.

Who: The scholarship is available to residents of Warren, Waitsfield, Fayston or Moretown who exemplify Louise’s spirit and dedication.

Qualification: The scholarship is awarded to a high school senior or current college student who is or will be enrolled in an accredited program leading to a degree in health care. Typical majors are nursing, physical therapy or occupational therapy. Other health related programs will be considered.

The MRV Health Center scholarship committee considers grades, need, extracurricular and volunteer activities. An essay which explains why the applicant has chosen a health care career path and what the scholarship would mean to them in achieving their goal is considered in the decision process.

Past winners include Isabel (“Izzy”) Moffroid whose studies focused on speech-language pathology and Shannon Adams who is studying for her nursing degree.
